I am using this sensor can you tell exactly this distance calculated is from outer side of the tower or from tower center line and is it possible that its value can go upto 60m if yes can you explain how ?
Dear @Siddhant.Sonone,
This is how this AeroDyn output is explained in the OutListParameters.xlsx spreadsheet:
Tower clearance at Blade 1, Node 1 (based on the absolute distance to the nearest point in the tower from B1N1 minus the local tower radius, in the deflected configuration); please note that this clearance is only approximate because the calculation assumes that the blade is a line with no volume (however, the calculation does use the local tower radius); when B1N1 is above the tower top (or below the tower base), the absolute distance to the tower top (or base) minus the local tower radius, in the deflected configuration, is output
So, the tower radius is accounted for, but not the blade chord. The value can large if the specific blade node is far away from the tower.
Best regards,
Currently I am considering the node near about tip of the blade. So whenever i check the node at Tower strike still it is showing high values for all blades can you tell me why and How ?
Dear @Siddhant.Sonone,
Iām not following. Are you saying that OpenFAST warns about a tower strike, but the B1N1Clrnc output for a node near the tip is showing a large clearance at that instance? If so, I suggest outputting the clearance at multiple nodes along the blade in case it is a node inboard of the tip that strikes the tower.
Best regards,
Thanks For Your reply nodes in between strikes the tower
